St. Cloud Man Sentenced in Gun Incident Where Toddler Was Shot [VIDEO]
ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison after his grandson mistook a sawed-off shotgun for a toy and shot another child last December.
Forty-six-year-old Kevin Sund pleaded guilty in August to felony possession of a dangerous weapon after being convicted on a previous crime of violence.
Records show Sund was sleeping at a home at 220 14th Avenue North in St. Cloud last December where his grandson and two other children were playing.
According to the criminal complaint, his five-year-old grandson found a duffel bag with what is described as a sawed-off shotgun inside. The boy thought the gun was a toy, pointed it at the ground, and pulled the trigger. The gunshot hit the three-year-old leaving as many as 12 BB pellets in his leg.
Sund has a prior 3rd degree assault conviction in Anoka County which prevents him from having a gun.
He gets credit for 99 days he's already served.
