Surly Brewing is one of the most popular breweries in Minnesota.  You can get their products at local liquor stores, but the brewery is located in Minneapolis.  For the last few years, they have had a one day festival called Darkness Day.

ANNUAL EVENT

Darkness Day is an annual one day festival that celebrates the release of their limited-edition Darkness Imperial Stout. The Darkness Day concept was started in 2007 by fans of the beer, which initially wasn't that popular, but through word of mouth, gained a following.  Then a festival grew from that and now includes some live music, food trucks, and tapping of some rare brews.

PRE-SALE NOW

It's a good idea to get in on the Darkness Day bottle pre-sale which is going on now.  Apparently, the beers are very popular now and many times sell out before the actual Darkness Day which is scheduled for October 4th this year

We have four options to choose from this year, including a collaboration with the legendary Schell’s Brewery!

  • WRATH: Three bottles of 2025 Darkness
  • LUST: Two bottles of 2025 Darkness + one of each variant (4 bottles total)
  • ENVY: One bottle of 2025 Darkness + one of each variant + one Schell’s collab bottle (4 bottles total)
  • GLUTTONY: Two bottles of 2025 Darkness + one of each variant + one Schell’s collab + one bottle of 2021 Barrel-Aged Darkness (6 bottles total)

WHERE & WHEN TO PICK UP

If you buy one or more of these beers you can pick them up on Darkness Day at the brewery any time between 11am and 5pm.  If you look at the names of the beers the question that comes to my mind is why aren't there 7 of them?  You know, the 7 deadly sins?  Anyway, might be something to think about checking out if you haven't done so in any of the other years.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
