What People in the St. Cloud Area Think About Tipping – Too Much?
Five and a half years ago, yes, it's been more than five years, we had the whole COVID pandemic thing. That shut down and limitations, and basically segregation lasted for two years. This was very hard on a lot of businesses, people in general too, but mostly businesses. And some of them didn't recover, or are still feeling the effects of the shutdowns.
HELPING PEOPLE OUT
One of the things that we were doing during the pandemic was tipping over and above to try and help out those in the service industry. They were the ones hit the hardest with the pandemic shut downs. So, we, as a society, tried to help out whenever and however we could.
After that, it seemed a bit like tipping was "out of control" as some have described it.
IS IT TOO MUCH?
The prompts started popping up all over the place. Fast food, your local barista, and of course, sit-down restaurants. The latter has always been a place where you would tip, and general rule of thumb is 20%. Do you tip more if the service is exceptional? Probably. But that is up to the patron. I usually tip that 20% threshold even when the service is not awesome, because I feel like it's a standard. But I will go above that for great service.
If I have to order something while standing up, probably not going to tip.
QUESTION FROM VIRAL POST
Yesterday I posed the question regarding tipping because there was a viral picture that was showing a receipt that had the suggestions at the bottom of the receipt crossed off and the 20% was circled. Like that is what the server was expecting, and wanted her customers to know that. She even added a little smiley face by it.
Was this ok?
So many comments regarding this. Some feel as though they shouldn't tip because she asked for it. And it was a little presumptious to just circle the 20% and to actually cross off the other options. Others feel like she deserves it. She works in this industry and has to put up with a lot. This receipt is from Logan Airport which is located in Boston. Since it is an airport, she probably doesn't have a lot of repeat customers.
COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL?
Some also saying that tipping is out of control. We understood during the pandemic, but now??
