Power outages happen occassionally and every time it does I'm always wondering why it went out, how long it will be out, and what to do if it's for an extended time.  And also brings thoughts of "should we get a generator just in case".

POWER GOES OUT RANDOMLY AND SEEMS LOCALIZED

Last night, a relatively small area in Waite Park found themselves without power.  There were businesses that didn't have power along with many customers.  The area without power seemed to be contained to a small area around the Ultimate Bar and Grill over to Parkwood Theatre.  But once you got past 10th Avenue, it seemed to be working fine.

POWER OUTAGE IN WAITE PARK RESTORED RELATIVELY QUICK

The power outage lasted for a little over an hour, and was restored at approximately 6:30 or a little bit before that.  When the power was restored, not all services were immediately available.  Myself and a few friends had tickets to see a movie at Parkwood theatre, and they had power, but that was it, the lights were on, but nothing else was working.  They were giving customers a choice to wait a bit until the power was completely restored, or take a free pass for another time.  The latter was the option that we chose.

At that same time, the Ultimate Sports Bar was still dark, not sure when that came back on, but everyone had power again by 6:30-ish.

WHY WAS THE POWER OUT WITHIN SUCH A SMALL AREA

The reason for the outage has not been 100% announced, or is possibly not yet known.  When something like this happens, and it was restored within 75 minutes, the exact reason isn't always given.  Most likely reasons are animal influence, vehicle accident influence or an actual transformer malfunction.  Since the power was restored relatively quickly, the actual reason has not been released, or the reason may not be investigated.
