You've heard of the "freshman 15", how about the holiday 20?  Actually the average weight gain for an adult is about 12 pounds from Thanksgiving through the new year.  Way too many holiday parties, huge meals, holiday treats both at home and at work, it's a battle.

Here are some tips on trying to at least maintain your weight throughout the next couple of weeks before people start the "new year, new you" portion of the year.

These ideas or tips are from Healthline

Make sure there is always something that is relatively healthy to eat.  When someone asks you to bring a dish to pass, bring a veggie tray.  Or something else where you can make something a bit more healthy with less calories.

Drink a ton of water.  It flushes your system and also can make you feel full so you have less of a chance of overeating.

Portion control.  This way you get to eat all of the stuff that isn't necessarily the best choice, but if you keep the portions low, it won't end up being quite as bad when you step on the scale.

Try to keep active throughout the holiday season.  You cannot exercise away a bad diet, but if you keep exercising and make sure to incorporate weights, your muscles will help to improve your metabolism.  Remember, muscles weigh more than fat.  And that's a good thing.

Always try and get enough sleep if you can.  At least 7-8 hours a night.

There is always the option to just give up and deal with it after the beginning of the year.  But then you are also just creating more work for yourself.  So, let's just try and maintain.  Losing weight during this time of year might be a bit ambitious.

Happy Holidays!
