Nostalgia! Head to Litchfield for a 40 Year Anniversary
It's nostalgia time - it's been 40 years (I feel really old now) since the original Top Gun came out in 1986. And on top of that, have you ever seen it at a Drive-In theatre? I certainly have not. The crazy thing is that I grew up in Eden Valley, and Litchfield is only 14 miles away. I have never seen a movie at the Starlite Drive In. And that's even closer since it's before you actually get to Litchfield proper.
CHECK OUT THIS WEEKEND'S LINE UP AT THE DRIVE IN THEATRE IN LITCHFIELD
This weekend, May 15th and 16th, this Friday and Saturday, The Starlite Drive In is showing the original Top Gun and also Mortal Kombat! Mortal Kombat was a video game, then a movie from the 90s. BUT the inspiration was from the movie Big Trouble in Little China. So, there is the connection. Now, they are showing Mortal Kombat 2 - the newest one.
So, if you want to relive some of your childhood memories, and then add some new ones, this might be a great weekend to do that. Plus, it looks like the weather is going to cooperate - mostly.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A DRIVE IN, THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME
Have you been to a drive-in movie before? They have made some improvements since the early days of those movies. You used to have to leave your window open and have the speaker right there. The issue is/was that it lets bugs in! Now, at most drive-ins there is an app for that. So no more mosquitoes ruining your viewing pleasure.
DRIVE IN THEATRES HAVE BEEN MAKING SOMEWHAT OF A COMEBACK
Drive In theatres have been making a comeback over the last few years, and I think that's kind of a good thing. I remember being a kid and you could drive past a bunch that used to be in the metro area and see the big screens showing some flick as you drove by. I always wondered how they would handle that if there were some questionable scenes. Would they show rated R movies?? Now, those questionable scenes could be in a PG-13 movie. Times have changed with what we, as a society, find acceptable or not.
Also - if you don't want to go to the drive-in, Top Gun, the original, is being shown today (May 13th) in select theatres.
