Back in the early to mid 90's, after being fired from my radio job in Orlando of 7 years, I made the move to Fargo to work at a new classic rock start up. In Florida, I used the air-name Dave Lee.  The first thing my new boss told me was I could not use the name Dave Lee in Fargo because an iconic radio personality had just left the market to accept a job a WCCO Radio in Minneapolis and his name was Dave Lee.

Although I have never met Dave Lee, I heard much about him over the years. He's one of the best in talk radio.  Dave Lee was at KFGO in Fargo for roughly 10 years before reluctantly making his move to major market radio in Minneapolis.

“The first time, I said no, so for me going to work at KFGO and playing ball with my buddies, doing all the things you can do…it was not that difficult for me to stay in Fargo. So the second time it turned out to be a good decision.” said Lee.

Dave Lee has won his share of awards in the broadcasting industry and counts 3 Emmys among them. He's also helped raise a lot of money for the university of Minnesota Children's Hospital to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Dave Lee's last broadcast on WCCO Radio will be April 30th. Even though I'm a bit jealous, I wish him the very best in his retirement.
