Police in Wadena County say an inmate has escaped custody while on his way to a court hearing.

According to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office,34 year old  Ryan Petro escaped  "during transition to a court appearance".  Petro had been in custody about a month on misdemeanor charges of obstruction, disorderly conduct, damage to property and breaking conditions of his release for 1st degree burglary, which is a felony.

Petro was dressed in an orange shirt and handcuffed when he escaped. "Petro is considered dangerous," the sheriff's office said, if spotted you should call 911.

"Law Enforcement is still actively searching for Petro and is following up on all reported information and sightings," according to a late Monday night update..

"An area on the north edge of Wadena was heavily searched by the Wadena County K-9 Unit, Todd County Drone, State Patrol Helicopter, Ottertail County Drone and numerous law enforcement personnel due to a tip that Petro was observed in that area."
