We all kind of figured this was coming. Starting Monday (7/20), Walmart and Sam's customers will be required to wear masks when shopping inside the stores.

Walmart and Sam's said that masks will be provided at the stores and store associates will be trained on who may be medically or otherwise unable to wear a mask.

As this pandemic rages and puts the U.S. as the world's COVID-19 hot spot, this seems to be the prudent thing to do.  I would expect Target and other retailers to follow suit and most likely cities or states may just require masks in all public places, next.

I tend to get a lot of backlash when I write about face masks. It certainly seems to be a problem to some. Many say it infringes on their personal freedom. I don't buy it.

Here are some other things that "infringe" on your freedom and all these things are for the safety of others. You have to stop at stop signs for the safety of others. You can't barrel down the street at 100 mph because it endangers others. Driving drunk is illegal because it endangers others. Smoking indoors is against the law because it endangers others. You must have working headlights and brake lights on your car, otherwise you are endangering the safety of others. You get the idea.

We all want this pandemic to end so we can get back to somewhat normal times.  But we need to follow the CDC guidelines and work together to end this. This IS NOT a political issue.

I hear people bitch about the shutdowns, etc, yet refuse to wear a mask when out in public. I wonder if they realize the more they fight the safety measures the longer it will take to suppress this pandemic.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
