Will You Forget Someones Name Almost Immediately After Meeting Them?

I am the absolute worst at remembering names and since we are out a lot at various events this does not bode well for me.  

I have gone so far as to say someones name eight times in my head in an attempt to remember, then when it's time to say, "hey Jon, it was nice meeting you", instead I say, "hey dude, good to meet you".  Why the hell can't I remember someones name?  I hope there are a lot of others like me (sorry, misery loves company), so I don't feel so bad.
