On a Budget? This is the Least Expensive College Town in Minnesota
If you are a senior in High School, or you have a kid that is a senior in high school and you are at the point where you are considering your college options - budget may definitely come into play.
COLLEGE TUITION HAS GOTTEN VERY EXPENSIVE RECENTLY
College tuition has become so expensive in the last few years, student loans can pile up (interest needs to be lowered on those) and then there is the day to day living expenses besides the normal cost just for classes and supplies. You might want to look somewhere that you can live fairly inexpensively.
ONE MINNESOTA TOWN HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS BEING THE MOST AFFORDABLE
To get the best bet for a good education and also the lowest cost in Minnesota for living expenses go to Winona, Minnesota.
From Yahoo:
Winona is also known as the Stained Glass Capital of the World. You learn something new everyday. Are there really that many people looking for Stained Glass? Well, if you are, Winona is the place to be.
There are two main colleges located in WInona. Winona State University and also St. Mary's University of Minnesota. It is also relatively close enough to the Twin Cities metro. That is, if you don't mind the two hour drive. AND, it is also where actress Winona Ryder got her name. Yes, named after a town in Minnesota. Her parents lived in a nearby town.
THERE A COUPLE OTHER OPTIONS AS WELL IF WINONA ISN'T FOR YOU
If you want some alternatives that are also relatively inexpensive, there is Mankato, with Minnesota State University, Mankato. Or head to Marshall, Minnesota. Southwest Minnesota State University is there. Although, there is not much to do in Marshall, MInnesota and also, a word of warning, always drive the speed limit in Marshall, Minnesota. I know several people, including myself, who have been cited for speeding in that town. Mine was going 34 in a 30. Good grief!
