A newer version of Canned Heat is out and about, however;  both the original co-founders of the original Canned Heat have passed.Co- founder Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson (lead vocal/composer) passed away in 1970 at the age of 27. Without his glasses he was literally blind. it was never official but his death is listed as a suicide.

Co- founder Bob “The Bear” Hite (vocals/songwriter) passed away in 1981 at the age of 38. Thinking it was cocaine given by a fan, Bob snorted the substance that turned out to be heroin and he died of an overdose.

Harvey “The Snake” Mandel (guitar) and Larry “The Mole” Taylor joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers in 1970.

Currently Harvey Mandel and Larry Taylor along with “Fito” de la Parra (drums) are in the Canned Heat line-up of today.
