The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up their ninth win of the season by finishing strong in a 102-101 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night at Target Center.

For a second straight game the Wolves kept it close against a playoff team but fell just short in the end. Minnesota trailed by just two points after a pair of Mo Williams free throws with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter but failed to make another basket in the contest.

Kevin Martin scored 21 points in 29 minutes of play in his first game back for the Wolves following wrist surgery in November. Six other Wolves scored in double figures including Gorgui Djeng, who scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds
The Minnesota Wild stormed back from a three goal, third period deficit to tie the Red Wings in Detroit Tuesday night before falling in a shootout. It was the last game for the Wild before the All Star Break until its next game in Edmonton on January 27th.
Neither team scored in the second period, in which the Wild outshot Columbus 12-9. Parise had a chance to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead on a penalty shot in the second, but saw the puck roll off his tape and trickle wide of the goal.
Former St. Cloud State goaltender Mike Lee was called up to the NHL's Arizona Coyotes from Gwinnett (GA) of the ECHL on January 15th. Lee has played in just five games this season after missing over a year following hip surgery.
