I'm all about the battle against breast cancer, I have a dear friend who is fighting it as we speak.I wear a pink ball cap every day in October to show support and anything else I can do to help I'm there.

After doing some research I wanted to share at least eight foods that help fight breast cancer.

Researchers found that women who eat beans at least twice a week have lower rates of developing breast cancer than those who eat beans less frequently. Beans period are a good source of fiber, however; black beans are the best because of the high antioxidant content in their skin. Black beans will block the circulation of estrodiol, which is a form of estrogen a major problem for those at risk for estrogen-driven breast cancer. Just something to keep in mind.

So this is what we have starting with beans:

  • Beans
  • Blueberries - a perfect source of antioxidants, they also have cancer-fighting chlorogenic acid in the berries.
  • Broccoli - Who doesn't love Broccoli right? According to research Broccoli has the richest source of sulforophane which is a compound that’s thought to strongly inhibit cancer.
  • Flaxseed - Research from the University of Toronto found that women with breast cancer who ate at least two tablespoons of ground flaxseed daily slowed their rate of cancer-cell growth.
  • Garlic - Not just to deter Vampires but through laboratory experiments, it's been discovered that allyl sulfur and some other compounds in garlic slow the growth of tumor cells. Loving this!
  • Mushrooms - I could eat these morning, noon and night. - these particular types, for example; Portobello, Cremini, button, and Shiitake mushrooms all have anti-cancer properties. Dig in! According to Karen Graham, R.D., an Arizona-based integrative nutritionist mushrooms contain more antioxidants than both tomato's and carrots.
  • Salmon - It was a five year study but researchers at the University of Southern California and the National University of Singapore concluded that postmenopausal women eating an average of 1.5 to 3 ounces of fish or shellfish daily were at least 26 percent less likely to develop breast cancer .
  • Spinach - again research from  the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences found that women who ate spinach more than twice a week had a much lower rate of breast cancer. Spinach is  rich in betacarotene and lutein,  powerful antioxidants.

I hope this info helps, fighting this together we win. I'm here for you ladies. Let's win this battle!
