The members of Slipknot are on the hunt for a new drummer following the departure of founding member Joey Jordison, and it sounds like they may have found his replacement in second-generation E Street Band member Jay Weinberg.

Twenty-three-year-old Weinberg, the son of longtime Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg, sports a rather impressive list of credits in spite of his relative youth; he filled in for his dad during Springsteen's 'Working on a Dream' tour in 2009, and has also been a member of the hardcore band Madball and the punk group Against Me!, as well as a substitute drummer for the Norwegian metal band Kvelertak during their 2013 tour.

Although Weinberg's Slipknot connection is just a rumor at this point, he'd have his work cut out for him if he entered the studio with the band -- not only because Jordison is beloved by a rabid fanbase that resents his apparent ouster from the group he helped create, but also because his position has been openly coveted by players with more obvious metal cred.

If he's offered the gig and he ends up taking it, in other words, he can expect to find his playing held under a microscope -- but given that he was behind the kit for one of the biggest bands on the planet when he was only a freshman in college, Weinberg can probably handle the scrutiny.
