Hear Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Beautiful Day,’ Recorded for ‘Finding Neverland: The Album’
Jon Bon Jovi has contributed vocals to "Beautiful Day," a cut from the upcoming collection Finding Neverland: The Album, which rounds up some of pop and rock's biggest stars to help reinterpret songs from the Broadway musical of the same name.
"Everybody knows Peter Pan, and I guess in some essence you could always say that every rock 'n' roll star is Peter Pan," Bon Jovi pointed out to People. "They never want to grow up."
The Finding Neverland LP, due June 9, finds lyricist Gary Barlow enlisting an array of vocalists, including the Bon Jovi frontman as well as Christina Aguilera and John Legend, to put a new musical spin on the stage story, which dramatizes the life of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie — and is itself based on the 2004 film Finding Neverland, starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet.
For Bon Jovi, singing "Beautiful Day" (which you can hear above) offered an opportunity to be a part of a project in a medium he's long admired — and, having watched Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan labor for years over the music to the Tony-winning musical Memphis, he understands how long and difficult the process can be.
"There are those who've done it better than others, but if you write a great musical, it can stand the test of time," observes Bon Jovi in a behind-the-scenes video. "You know, Wicked — when I saw it with my daughter, she was a little girl. I would take her back — she's a grown woman, but I'd see it again, because it stands the test of time. There's a certain benchmark there, and [Barlow's] been working very hard to achieve success. I think they're great."
