Lars Ulrich has spent decades taking heat from James Hetfield, so a belligerent drum teacher should be no big deal for the Metallica drummer, right?

We get the answer — sort of — in the video above, posted by the folks at Metal Injection and spliced together using archival Ulrich clips and bits from the 2014 movie Whiplash. If you've watched Whiplash, you know much of it finds the extraordinary J.K. Simmons spending a lot of time screaming at drummers at the top of his lungs, so it was probably only a matter of time before somebody did something like this.

It's actually a pretty genius idea, and while the clips don't always fit together as neatly as one might like, maybe someone at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will see this and throw together a bit where Simmons — who's up for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar this Sunday — actually gets up in some famous drummers' faces.

Based on some of the stuff he's had to deal with in real life, we're guessing Lars would take it in stride. As Metallica fans will recall, the band's headliner status at 2014's Glastonbury Festival drew fire from a long list of other acts, with Ulrich coming under specific criticism for being an "unbelievably bad drummer" — all of which he shrugged off and let the music speak for itself.
