This song is about a girl whose parents are very conservative, also it expresses the frustrations of many kids about how uncool and out of the loop their parents are.

The idea for the song came from a song titled, "Your Mama Don't Allow" which came out in 1963 by The Rooftop Singers.

In early 1973, Loggins and Messina took "Your Mama Don't Dance" up to #4 on the Billboard Pop chart. 15 years later, Poison rocked it to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

I'm Not sure why Poison really ever covered this song but they did a pretty good job with it.
