Rox Split Late Night Doubleheader With Rafters
The St. Cloud Rox split a doubleheader with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Wednesday night, falling 10-9 (10 innings) in game one before winning game two 5-1 at Joe Faber Field. The second game ended at 1:05 Thursday morning.
Game one was scheduled for seven innings, but the teams required ten to produce a winner. The Rox trailed 9-3 heading into the sixth inning, but made a huge comeback over the final two innings to tie the game and send it to extras.
Eric Loxtercamp was 4-6 from the leadoff spot with two runs scored and two RBI for the Rox. Third baseman Blake Headley was 3-5 with a pair of runs scored in the loss.
Each member of the Rafter lineup had at least one hit, with Jackson Slaid pacing the offense with three hits.
Game one took nearly four hours, meaning game two would not begin until 11:15 pm.
Rox starter Kyle Fischer breezed through the Wisconsin Rapids lineup in a complete game win. The only blemish on his ledger was a solo home run by Zack Belanger in the top of the fifth inning.
Devin Pearson led the St. Cloud offense by going 2-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Despite the win, the Rox were eliminated from playoff contention with Waterloo’s win over Lakeshore Wednesday night. St. Cloud is 19-12, 5.5 games out of first place with four games left in the regular season.
The Rox will host the LaCrosse Loggers Thursday night at Faber Field.
