Runaway Ride: Nearly Half a Million Kia Telluride SUVs Recalled

Ope. I swear I parked it right here. I wonder why that SUV crashed into that intersection down the hill OH NO THAT'S MY TELLURIDE.

Kia issued a recall of over 427,000 Telluride SUVs because a manufacturer defect could cause them to roll away WHILE THEY ARE PARKED. Big ope.

Kia Recalls Over 427,000 Telluride SUVs

"Unintended vehicle movement" is never a good thing.

Kia is recalling Telluride SUV models from 2020 to 2023, as well as select 2024 models. Fortunately, no injuries or crashes due to the defect have been reported. Yet.

In grease monkey talk: the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft may not be fully engaging...much like me during Entertainment News. "Improper assembly" is being cited as the cause of the problem.

In regular folk talk: SUV could make a run for it if you park on a hill.

Dealers will update the SUVs' electronic parking brake software (???) as well as replace any damaged intermediate shafts, free of charge. If you've already had it replaced before the recall was issued, you'll be reimbursed.

In the Meantime...

Drivers of these Tellurides are being instructed to manually engage the emergency brake when you park. Check out the NHTSA website to see if you own a model affected by this or other vehicle recalls.

General Motors issued a recall for 820,000 Sierras and Silverados less than a month ago.

In late January, Ford Motor Company issued a recall of Ford Explorers from model years 2011 to 2019.

In later January, Toyota issued a massive recall on top of a previous massive recall.
