Time to cancel Thanksgiving.

Turkey? Check. Stuffing? Check. Rolls? Check. Veggies? Check. Pumpkin pie?

........................................................

If you want pumpkin pie for the holidays, you'd better stock up now.

While California was drying up in June, Illinois - home of 90% of pumpkins that get canned - got drenched. Heavy rain is bad for pumpkin harvesting, which ended this past Tuesday (the harvest typically lasts into November).

That means supply is low. Low supply + high demand = higher prices.

Of course, this will also affect Halloween's jack-o-lantern population.

Save those innards!

In addition to the possible shortage for the Autumn '15 holiday season, the low harvest will affect the canned pumpkin supply for 2016, since once this year's supply is used up there will be no more supply until the next harvest.

Makes you want to slap a pumpkin spice-drinking hipster, doesn't it? (disclaimer: don't)

So give extra thanks for that pumpkin pie this fall, and don't forget that ANY pie is good pie.

To paraphrase Patrick Henry: give me pumpkin pie, or give me...chocolate!
