A major road construction project starting Monday will detour traffic around Holdingford for the next several weeks.

A large road construction project is on track to get underway in Sauk Rapids soon. The city is reconstructing 2nd Avenue South this summer between 1st Street South and Benton Drive. A second phase of the project will include side streets in that vicinity.

Traveling through St. Stephen will get more difficult starting Monday. Crews will be starting work on the County Highway 2 reconstruction project.

A road construction project in St. Joseph is scheduled to get underway Monday. The Stearns County Highway Department will begin milling off the pavement on County Road 134 and repaving between Highway 75 and County Road 2.

People living in cities under 5,000 people are paying a tax that they aren't seeing a benefit from. Minnesota has tax on unleaded gas of 28.6 cents per gallon and 28.6 cents per gallon on diesel. The taxes paid go to county, state and township roads but nothing to small towns.

Travelers can expect minimal construction on state highways in central Minnesota this summer. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has released its list of projects scheduled for 2017.
