It was touch and go, and it sounded more and more like it was going to go away, but no. The Jimi Hendrix biopic will be shown to the public for the first time next month.

The Jimi Hendrix biopic called Jimi: All Is By My Side has not been blessed by the Hendrix estate, so if it is released and you do plunk down your hard earned money to see it, you’re taking a risk that you may be getting hosed.

Because the film never got the blessing from Jimi’s estate, they also never got the rights to use his music, so the director, John Ridley was forced to change the focus of the film from his short career as a super star guitar god to his days as a session musician before he got famous.

Jimi: All Is By My Side will screen at South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. SXSW runs March 7 through the 15.
