Twins Blank Mariners 4-0 Saturday
The Twins topped the Mariners 4-0 Saturday at Safeco Field in Seattle. The win is Minnesota's second straight after a 3-2, thirteen inning win late Friday night.
On Friday, the Twins were stymied by Felix Hernandez for eight innings until Trevor Plouffe came through with a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the tenth for a 1-1 tie.
The game went into the 13th inning when Aaron Hicks led off with a single to left field. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire elected to let 29 year old rookie Chris Colabello swing away as opposed to attempting a bunt. The move paid off, as Colabello smacked his first major league home run to right field that gave the Twins a 3-1 lead and eventual 3-2 win.
Sam Deduno was excellent in his start for Minnesota Saturday, lasting seven innings without allowing a run. The righty improved to 7-4 after allowing three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
The Twins will wrap up their series with Seattle at 3:10 on Sunday.
