Twins Take Weekend Series In Texas
The Twins took two out of three games with the Texas Rangers over the weekend in Arlington. Minnesota earned wins on Friday and Sunday but suffered a setback Saturday.
The Twins were nearly no-hit by AL strikeout leader Yu Darvish but eventually rallied for a 3-2 win. Justin Morneau, who would be traded to Pittsburgh less than 24 hours later, hit a tie-breaking home run in the top of the seventh inning to highlight a three-run frame for Minnesota. Chris Hermann had previously broken up the no hitter with a two-run shot off of Darvish.
The Twins fell by a 2-1 final on Saturday night as the offense could not get anything going against former Twin Matt Garza, who pitched seven innings and struck out nine.
In Sunday’s matinee Minnesota took a 4-2 decision thanks to a three-run fifth inning against Texas starter Travis Blackeley. Kevin Correia pitched seven solid innings for the Twins, allowing just one run on five hits.
