Wild Win Overtime Thriller To Pull Within One Game Of Chicago

The Wild showed what they could do with thousands of rabid Minnesota hockey fans cheering them on in a 3-2 overtime win over Chicago Sunday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center.

It was the Blackhawks who scored first, however, and temporarily quieted the hyped up crowd. Johnny Oduya scored his first goal of the playoffs and the Wild found themselves in a 1-0 hole with 6:34 left in the first period.

Minnesota was able to take the momentum into the locker room thanks to a Pierre-Marc Bouchard backhander that beat Hawks goalie Corey Crawford above his shoulder under the far post. The tying goal was assisted by Cal Clutterbuck and Kyle Brodziak.

Zach Parise gave the Wild a 2-1 lead in the third period with his first goal of the playoffs. Parise got a nice feed after a Chicago turnover found its way to Charlie Coyle’s stick, who found Parise in front.

With Minnesota going into a defensive shell, the Hawks were able to net the equalizer with just 17:14 remaining in the third period. Duncan Keith connected on a slap shot past Josh Harding that deflated the crowd and sent the game into overtime.

Jason Zucker was the hero in the extra period, beating Crawford with a tough-angle shot at 2:15 to send the crowd into hysterics and cut the Hawks series lead to 2-1.

The Wild and Hawks meet again at the X at 8:30 pm on Tuesday night. You can hear all the action on AM 1390-The FAN.
