Support For Local Forests Arrives With New State Grant Programs
The State of Minnesota has announced two grant opportunities that will be used to help grow urban and community forests around the state. This grant money will be used to help local governments and non-profit organizations restore, protect, and diversify tree cover in Minnesota.
There are two different programs that these grants will be supplying money to.
Program #1
The first is called the 2025 Community Tree Planting Grants. In this program, four million dollars in money will be distributed to local government branches whose primary focus is to replace trees that were lost to forest pests, disease or storms that have blown through the area.

Monies for this program can also be used to help establish a more diversified forest that can withstand disease or pests. The deadline for this program is October 13th.
Program #2
The second grant program that is available is called the 2025 ReLeaf Grant Program, and it will receive seven million dollars that is intended to help local government divisions and non-profits plant, improve, protect, maintain, access, improve and restore tress and forest resources.
This program targets a wider range of programs and activities that will serve Minnesotans long into the future. Applications must be turned in by October 28th for consideration of funds in this program.
The maximum that a grant will be supplied is $500,000. Local government divisions can apply for both grants. There is no matching funds required or a minimum request, which allows a larger number of groups and organizations to apply and receive money.
