Not only is Amazon going to stop drug testing for marijuana but they are also pushing for federal legalization. Already, Amazon has been expanding rapidly in states where pot is already legal.

Of course, this will not apply to employees or prospective employees that are regulated by the Department of Transportation, like truck drivers, heavy machinery operators and delivery drivers.  That makes sense.

"In the past, like many employers, we've disqualified people from working at Amazon if they tested positive for marijuana use," the company said in a blog post on Tuesday. "However, given where state laws are moving across the U.S., we've changed course."

I get the feeling that someday you'll be able to order your pot supply directly from Amazon.  They could call this service Amazon Primo....or not. Could be a good day for those damn porch pirates.

Amazon is in the process of building their East Coast headquarters in Virginia, where pot is legal. New York has also seen expansion there where recreational marijuana was legalized at the end of this past March.

Being the 2nd largest employer in the country, this seems to me to be a pretty bold step.  I've often wondered why alcohol wasn't tested for but pot was, except for the legal standing from state to state.

"Drug testing has never provided an accurate indication of a person's ability to perform their job," The Drug Policy Alliance said, "and yet this incredibly invasive practice has locked out millions of people who use drugs — both licit and illicit — from the workplace." They also stated that Amazons move to not test is "a huge step forward."

I imagine that this end to testing for marijuana will be in full swing by the time St Cloud's Amazon Fulfillment Center is up and running.

I heard one of the late night talk show hosts joke that current Amazon employees were not exactly thrilled with the no test thing, claiming that drug tests were the only bathroom break they got.
