Brew Review: Horny Goat “HornyCopia”

Fall is one of my favorite times of year for beer.  It's when breweries put their best pumpkin foot forward.

Today's sampling comes from the Horny Goat Brewing Co. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Love the name of the brewery and the name of the beer "HornyCopia".

This pumpkin ale boasts a 6.3% ABV, so it's just a tish stronger than your average domestic.  Beautiful caramel color with just a hint of orange. The toasted caramel hits you right off the bat, then comes the malts.

I found this to be a little bitter and that almost overwhelmed the spices for me.  I know they're in there when I take a whiff.  This beer smells exactly like pumpkin pie, which is probably why the website calls it "Pumpkin Pie in a Bottle."  I just wish the spices weren't so lost in the other flavors.  It didn't stop me from taking down a sixer though.
