Buying Eggs? Check the Carton, Some Could Be Missing
We have all heard about how expensive eggs are right now. It was even used as a joke of sorts during the presidential campaign. Both candidates stating that they would work to lower the cost of eggs, and other groceries as well.
Then, the bird flu showed up again. And eggs got even more pricey. Costco has had to post signs limiting the amout of eggs you can buy. It's like the equivalent to toilet paper hoarding from the pandemic.

So, if you are shopping for eggs, make sure you observe the signs, if there are any. Hopefully this will help to make sure there are enough eggs for people who want them.
Another thing to pay attention to is checking the inside of the egg carton. Most of us will open the carton to make sure that none of the eggs are broken before buying, but now you also need to check to make sure that you are actually buying a dozen eggs.
People are stealing the eggs from cartons in the grocery store. I'm not sure how they are getting these fragile little things home - in their pockets? That seems risky. But the eggs are definitely going missing in several grocery stores.
There was a huge theft of eggs from a distribution trailer in Pennsylvania.
There hasn't been a heist that large here in Minnesota, just the occasional egg or two or more taken from cartons in the grocery store.
Also- if you are someone that has your own chickens and therefore your own eggs, make sure not to reuse egg cartons. There are some concerns that those cartons could carry the bird flu and therefore could potentially infect humans. I guess you should use the plastic egg containers and just wash them?
