I get it.  We had a dog for 17 years that was non-shedding and hypoallergenic.  He was great around the house - no dog hair everywhere.  When you would pick him up (he was only 10 pounds) no residue hair left on your clothes, and people with allergies were able to hang out without being miserable.

Now, we have a very sweet dog, but he sheds!!  I can fill up a vacuum cleaner with hair after just one vacuuming session in one room.  And we do vacuum at least twice a week.

WHAT DOGS CAN YOU ADOPT THAT ARE MOSTLY NON SHEDDING

So, got me to thinking - what dogs are non-shedding, or at least shed very little?  Something to keep in mind, a lot of non-shedding dogs will require regular grooming.  As they do still lose hair, it just stays with them for the most part.  The under and over coats.  They also require brushing to get the lose hair out.  It just generally doesn't fall out on it's own.

BICHON FRISE

This is the dog we had for 17 years. Ours was actually a bichon/poo.  No shedding.  It was great.  And such a friendly dog. They love their humans and love to play.

KERRY BLUE TERRIER

Known as a great watch dog and family dog.  These dogs are the largest of the terrier breed and can get to about 40 pounds.  Not a huge dog - but definitely solidly medium.

POODLE

Whether you decide on a full sized poodle or a mini or teacup poodle, these dogs are easily trained and they do not shed.

LOWCHEN

This one kind of resembles a Yorkie. But with really long hair, and a bigger stance.  Smaller dog with a huge personality.

SHIH TZU

These dogs were a favorite of Chinese royalty.  They are cute companion dogs that will definitely need regular grooming.

MINI SCHNAUZER

Most popular of this breed.  People like little dogs that don't shed, and the mini schnauzer is just that pup.  They love people and playtime.  Minimal shedding.

YORKSHIRE TERRIER

Considered to be lap and purse dogs.  They are adorable with huge personalities and love their people. They are quite energetic, however.  So keep that part in mind if thinking of adopting a Yorkie.  They do need to be groomed regularly, but they do not shed.

There are some other breeds that fit this bill as well, but these are the most popular ones.
