Check Out Makwa, He's Up For Adoption

Once again we had our Tuesday morning call with Kate from Tri County Humane Society and since it's National Puppy Day, we had to feature a dog (not quite a puppy). Makwa is a retriever/lab mix and is a pretty cool dog who's looking for a home and family.

Meet Makwa! This boy came to TCHS because he did not do well with the children in the home. Makwa cannot go to a home with young children; teenage children who understand proper boundaries may be okay.

Did well with the cats and small dogs in the past. It is unknown if he has met bigger dogs. Slow and proper introductions with resident pets and people are needed to help set him up for success.

Makwa has shown food and toy guarding in his previous home. In the shelter setting, he guards high value food and treats/bones. His new family must be prepared to work on this behavior in an appropriate manner; staff will provide more information.

Makwa would benefit from basic obedience training utilizing positive reinforcement methods. Makwa is used to free roaming the house when his owners are away, and is not kennel trained. Potty trained and does best when kept on a consistent schedule. Would do best in a home with a fenced in yard where he can burn off his energy.

Daily walks and exercise are recommended for this boy. Should be fed a high quality low-calorie diet as he is a bit overweight. Weighs 62 pounds. Could Makwa be the dog for you? Schedule an appointment today to come meet him!
