Contamination Concerns Over Recalled Green Beans in Minnesota
WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY GREEN BEANS?
My favorite veggie is on recall from Del Monte Foods because of 'potential contamination' with a 'foreign object.'
THE RECALL
Approximately 200,000 cans of Good & Gather Cut Green Beans, have been recalled.
The green beans are sold at Target stores in 21 states including Minnesota.
Although complete details have not yet been released regarding the recall, it has been put in the Class II category. Class II recalls "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences," according to the FDA.

MORE INFORMATION FORTHCOMING
Be on the lookout for more information about the recall in the upcoming days. Right now there are no specific instructions on what you can do with your recalled green beans, but typically the recommendation is that if you find them in your pantry, you can return them to the place of purchase, usually for a refund. If you don't want to fool with getting your refund, you are typically encouraged to throw the affected products away.
There does seem to be a rise in recalls, but according to Barbara Kowalcyk, Ph.D. from Food Safety and Nutrition Security at George Washington University, 'We're doing more investigations, but we also have better tools to do investigations with.' This could be why we are seeing more recalls, and hopefully will create a safer food supply for everyone.
