But there’s always the unexpected the looms out there that no one can plan for. Sickness can pop up from things that we eat, or drink and accidents can happen in a variety of ways.

Late last week, one of the most popular cooler makers in the country extended a recall from earlier in the year to include additional cooler models that will likely be used by a lot of people this year.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the Igloo 90-quart Flip and Tow Rolling Cooler was recalled in February because it could cause an injury to user.

The tow handle can pinch the fingertips of the person rolling the cooler.  That may not sound like something worth causing a product to be recalled, but since the cooler was recalled in February of this year, there have been 78 incidents reported to the company.

26 of those injuries resulted in the person affected having their fingertips amputated, fractured or lacerated. In other cases, the person rolling the cooler suffered a significant enough of an injury they reported the incident to the company.

The additional model numbers that fall under the recall are:

The Igloo Latitude 90-Quart Roller with the model number 34692

The Igloo Latitude 90-Quart Roller with the model number 34785

The MaxCold Latitude 90-Quart Roller with the model number 34790

Over a million of these coolers were recalled in February, and there have been over 130,000 coolers that fall into the extended recall.

The cooler first went on sale in January of 2019, and the recall covers all of those sold up to January 2024. These coolers sold for between $80 and $140. These coolers were widely sold in stores like Costco, Target, Academy Sports, Dicks Sporting Goods as well as other big box stores. These coolers were also sold at amazon.com.

The resolution to this issue is to contact Igloo for a replacement handle.
