Dear Baxter,

I love my husband but I also love nice things, like, really nice things.  Last week, he asked me what I wanted for our anniversary.  I told him if he really wanted to know, I wanted this diamond bracelet we saw window shopping.  Anyway, our anniversary was yesterday and he gave me a cheap knockoff of cheap gem stones.  I acted like I liked it but I think he could see I was really disappointed.  What can I do about this?

Jennifer,

I can relate to your husband.  I once had a girlfriend that suffered from the same shallow, selfish affliction you seem to have.  She had a thing for expensive sports cars.  I asked her what she wanted for her birthday and without missing a beat said "something shiny that will go from zero to 160 in less than 10 seconds"..  You should have seen the look on her face when I gave her a bathroom scale.  My advice to you is to give this guy a break and dump him.  Find some rich guy to make miserable.  Hope this helps.

Signed,

Baxter
