I know that eggs have been crazy pricey recently.  This is due to the avian flu epidemic.  Egg shortages are happening everywhere.  Apparently there are about half the amount of chickens laying eggs than there used to be.  That is an issue.

We know that eggs are much less expensive at places like Costco and Sam's Club.  So, we were in Costco the other day - just about 2 days ago, and we were planning on picking up some eggs.  They generally come in 2 dozen packs and right now, or at least the last time we bought some they were around $6 or $7 for a package.  There was also a sign stating that a customer can only purchase one page at a time.  That's fair.

But when we were there on Monday. There were no eggs to be found.  Not only were there zero eggs, but it didn't seem to even be a spot as to where they were supposed to be.  I know that Costco likes to move things around throughout the store, but there are only so many spots where refrigerated goods can be.  We looked all over and no success in finding them.  We had to buy from a regular grocery store for $8 a dozen.  YIKES!

Has anyone else been to Costco lately?  Did you find any eggs there?  Maybe we just aren't very observant.  But seriously, it seemed like there weren't any there.

When we did buy them from a grocery store, there were literally 5 cartons of eggs left.  So, people are willing to pay the upcharge, apparently, but stores are having a hard time keeping them in stock.

Maybe the "rent a chicken" idea isn't that bad.  Does everything that you need to have chickens come with the rental of said chickens?  It might be more work than it's worth.

Would you rent a chicken?
