Elf (the movie) Fan Theories

Now, I have made it no secret that I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell.  He just annoys me in most movies.  Just not my cup of tea.  I know a lot... actually probably most people like him and find his humor entertaining.  I'm just not one of them.

With that said, I know that a lot of people consider Elf to be one of their favorite Christmas movies.  Now, the fans of this show have come up with some theories for this movie.  Some of them seem completely far fetched.  Like the fact that Elf is a prequel to Step Brothers.  This is because Will Ferrell's character has the same mother in both movies.

This seems highly unlikely.  More like bad casting?  Or good casting?  Depending on the way you look at it.  Maybe an oversight?-
