This storm is pummeling Texas right now and it's affecting thousands of Minnesotans in ways you may not have realized. It's important to help how you can.

Texas is straight South of Minnesota at the other end of the country, and they're getting nailed with a massive hurricane that came in through the Gulf of Mexico. They've received a year worth of rain in just a few days, and it's becoming a dangerous area quickly.

The timing couldn't be worse for many Minnesotans, who are snowbirds and are headed to the Texas gulf coast for the winter months over the next 30-60 days.

Cities such as Galveston, Rockport and Freeport are some of the cities in Texas that many Minnesota retirees call "home" in the winter months. With summer ending and fall starting, many of these Minnesota residents are starting to prepare for a journey to the southern US to escape the cold. Sadly they will be walking into destruction of the tropical homes they live in through the winter.

Even cities further inland are seeing torrential rain and flooding, including Houston, which is 40 miles from the gulf coast.

This terrible storm has caused billions in damage and everybody's help is needed. The American Red Cross is taking online donations of whatever you can give. You can also text a $10 donation by texting HARVEY to 90999.
