The new season of American Idol premieres tonight and Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler is judging again this year. What does Joe Perry have to say about it?

Steven Tyler's side project, American Idol has caused friction in the past between he and Joe Perry, but Joe says he's OK with it now.

Joe tells SplashNewsOnline that it's "tough having your lead singer have a day job, but what can you do?" They also asked Joe if he would ever be on the singing competition. He said he asked Steven about it and he said that he would do it, but "only if he could win." But Joe isn't ruling out an appearance or two.

Joe is not only saying he's OK with Steven being a judge on American Idol, he is going to show his support this week. Steven is going to be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno with judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest. Steven, Joe and Randy are scheduled to team up as that night's musical guest as well. That show will air Friday. Joe's side project, The Joe Perry Project will be the musical guest on Jay Leno January 30 to perform their song Man of Peace.

The eleventh season of American Idol premieres tonight at 7 on Fox.
