The Legendary Mickey’s Diner in St. Paul Has Re-Opened!
Over four years ago, a legendary greasy spoon closed its doors. This morning, Mickey's Dining Car quietly flipped on the OPEN sign again for the most deliciously-pleasant surprise.
The community landmark - first opened in 1939 - is back!
Mickey's Diner Quietly But Triumphantly Re-Opens
After having to close during the COVID-19 pandemic, the iconic diner car sat closed and sad at the corner of St. Peter St and 7th St. This morning - seemingly out of nowhere - the gods of good eats smiled upon the intersection.
Mickey's classic breakfast staples are back, too: homemade pancakes, hash browns, omelettes I'M SO HUNGRY RIGHT NOW. Manager Sam Hashish says that they're also adding espressos, lattes, new desserts, and vegetarian options.
To avoid confusion, he said "[t]he new stuff that we’re adding is going to be on a separate menu. We’re keeping the old-school menu Mickey’s, still the same."
The diner has appeared in movies like "The Mighty Ducks" and "Jingle All the Way", as well as "The Prairie Home Companion".
Not All-Day and All-Night...Yet
Mickey's Diner used to be open 24 hours/day, but will now open at 7am for the time being. They'll close at 5 or 6pm, depending on staffing...which, like a LOT of businesses, has been a challenge to fill.
Is was a soft opening this morning, as they're making sure equipment - grills, fryers, and fridges - all work to avoid another closure. A grand opening is planned for the future.
This morning, the dining world got a little bit brighter.
