New Poll Shows Trump Struggling With Approval Ratings This Year
President Trump’s second term is now 366 days old. So, how’s he doing? Not well, if you believe the polls.
A new poll from The Economist finds Trump has a net approval rating of -19%. 37% of Americans approve of the current administration, 56% do not approve, and 5% are unsure. By comparison, Trump had a -11% net approval rating at this point in his first term, Biden had a -12% net approval rate 366 days into his term.

American’s opinions have slipped on the direction of the country. On day one of President Trump’s second term, 37% believed the country was on the right track, with 50% indicating the country was on the wrong track. One year later, those numbers have slipped to 31% and 61%. Trump ran on two central campaign promises – to lower inflation and cut prices, and to stop the “flood of illegal immigration” into the nation. One year into his presidency, Trump has seen the net approval rating of both those issues slide into negative numbers; Net approval on the cost of living dropped from +6% a year ago to -27% today while the net approval rating on illegal immigration slid from +11% to -7%.
In news that isn’t a surprising, President Trump’s approval is highest among white and male voters. Individuals with higher education are less likely to support the current administration.
One year into Trump’s second term, Americans are pretty clear about what’s on the top of their mind. When asked what their biggest concern was, 40% claimed the economy (specifically the cost of living) is top of their mind. The other top issues (health care – 12%, civil rights – 11%, and immigration – 9%) were nowhere near as pressing in the average American’s mind.
In the end, Americans are feeling “whip-sawed” by the news of the day. Wild swings in news (war in Venezuela to ICE operations in Minnesota to an invasion of Greenland) leave Americans feeling very unsure as they move through a chaotic world.
