Ernest who was born Ermes Effron Borgnino on Jan. 24, 1917 in Hamden, Conn Passed away Sunday at the age of 95 in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, according to longtime friend and spokesperson Harry Flynn.

Ernest won an Oscar in 1955 for his Role as a  butcher  in the Motion Picture "Marty". He had many credits to his career including, "From here to Eternity" with Frank Sinatra and "Bad Day At Black Rock" starring Spencer Tracy.

Other notable films were "The Wild Bunch", The Dirty Dozen", "The Poseidon Adventure," and "The Flight Of The Phoenix".

He served in the United States Navy in World War II, and served in the Navy again In "McHale's Navy" during 1962- 1966. He was also the voice of Mermaid Man in "SpongeBob Square Pants".

He was survived by his wife Tova Traesnaes, four children and six grand children.
