My Review Of Surly’s “Furious Black IPA”
Let’s be honest. IPAs are definitely an acquired taste. Most people can handle the occasional, social beer, but an IPA is a different beast. It has a much stronger bite and the “hoppy” taste is a little much for a most people.
It’s just the nature of the drink. However, I recently tried an IPA that beer drinkers across the board could all enjoy. I’m talking about Surly’s “Furious Black IPA.” I kid you not – it’s the best IPA that has ever caressed my taste buds. Clocking in at 6.7% ABV, it’s a little stronger than some IPAs but it’s far from over bearing.
In my opinion, it’s just right. The hoppy aroma of Furious Black is tempered by its palatable, crisp taste. Obviously, Furious Black is a play on Surly’s legendary “Furious IPA” – which is quite popular itself.
But if you’re feeling adventurous and would like something a little stronger and eccentric, I definitely recommend Furious Black. It takes everything we loved about the original Furious and expands on it with a bolder taste, higher ABV, and more complex flavors.
