Do you love ice skating?  It's a relaxing sport that takes some skill, and, in this case, can get you out in nature, while you are exercising.  I'm a big fan of exercise when it doesn't seem like you are.  Perfect.

IT'S THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE FOREST SKATING LOOP

I am talking about the new ice skating loop that is having it's inaugural year at the Northland Arboretum in Baxter, Minnesota. It's like a great trail through the woods, only instead of walking or snowshoeing, you are skating around in the woods.  How much more zen can you get than outdoors, in the quiet of winter on skates?

This is our very first year offering Forest Ice Skating, and we’re treating it as an exciting experiment. We’ve created a gently winding ice trail through the woods, between a quarter-mile and a half-mile long, with light elevation changes for a truly unique outdoor skating experience. We’re still learning, testing, and refining, but we think you’re going to love it.

ARE YOU WANTING TO RENT SOME SKATES FOR THIS ADVENTURE

If you do not have skates and you just want to check this out, or if you have kids that are just wanting to see what it's like, they do rent them at the Arboretum.  Or, at least they will be doing that very soon.  They are currently looking for skate donations to build up their rental inventory.

We hope to offer skate rentals through the Visitor Center soon. In the meantime, we are gratefully accepting skate donations to help us build our rental collection. Come glide through the trees, enjoy the crisp winter air, and be part of our very first season on the ice. We can’t wait to see you out on the trail!
