Traffic.  If you are driving in the metro area and there happens to be a thunderstorm brewing, get to somewhere safe.  NOT under an overpass.  This is so dangerous.  Granted, if there is a possibility of hail, you do want to protect your vehicle.  but you need to find some other way to do it other than this situation that happened over the weekend in the Twin Cities area.

While he mentioned it in a kind of humorous tone, it's very true that this is one of the most dangerous things you could do during a storm.  This was apparently in the Rush City area, and then, this happened on I-694.

JUST SEEKING SHELTER DURING A HAIL STORM - WHAT'S THE ISSUE

From KARE 11:

There are so many reasons why this isn't a good idea during a storm.  Several factors play into this situation.

Doing so traps vehicles in a wind tunnel that amplifies wind speeds and flying debris, completely blocks emergency responders, causes severe highway gridlock, and creates blind spots that result in multi-car pileups

OTHER THAN THE OBVIOUS, TWO THINGS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED

The things that really stand out to me in this situation is the fact that first responders may be blocked from getting through.  Secondly, the fact that other drivers may not be able to see you parked under an overpass and could rear-end you should be of great concern.

Instead - take the first exit to get off the interstate, pull over on the side of the road, or somewhere that is safe for you and for other drivers.
