10 years.  It's been 10 years since Prince, the Purple one, tragically died in the elevator at his Paisley Park compound.  As a lifelong Prince fan, it's still hard to believe that he is gone, and even worse with the way he went.  A drug overdose - something he was always so totally against.  And alone in an elevator.  He had reached out for help with the prescription drugs just days before he passed.

IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IT HAS ACTUALLY BE 10 YEARS

Yesterday, April 21st was officially the 10 year mark.  People from all over the nation came in to celebrate the life of Prince, his music and culture.  In June, for what would have been his 67th birthday, there is going to be a huge event at Paisley Park.  The event goes from June 3-7 (which is his actual birthday).

PRINCE IS THE SUBJECT OF A COLLEGE COURSE AT THE U OF M

While that sounds like something every Prince fan would want to be a part of, there is also a new thing at the U of M that has a new generation given the opportunity to learn about Prince; his life, music and influence on the culture.

You’d see that if you enroll in his class AMST 3112: Prince, Porn, and Public Space: The Cultural Politics of Minnesota in the '80s. The course explores the relationship between music, race and sexuality in Minneapolis during the decade

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE CLASS WITH PRINCE AS THE SUBJECT

There are 3 different classes with Prince as a subject at the college, and they have been around for quite a few years - being that Prince is an Icon, and from Minnesota.  In 2016, the class had just 20 people enrolled.  Now, that enrollment is quite different.  They had to cap it at 180 students.

From KARE 11:

Dr. Elliott Powell is an expert on all things Prince at the University of Minnesota. And now, people are clammoring to be a part of his class. "There were 20 students in the spring of 2016," says Powell. "This coming fall, the course enrollment cap is at 180 students. There is this kind of demand, there is this kind of interest, there is this kind of curiosity at the academic level to learn more about Prince and why Prince matters."

Personally, if I could audit the class, I would absolutely do that.  I don't need the college credit, but I would love to be in a class that explores the ins and outs of Prince and his music as well as the influence he and his music had on society.
