A Great Idea To Entertain and Educate Kids This Winter
We’ve had our first good taste of cooler weather, in St. Cloud yesterday morning the temp hit 27 degrees at the radio stations, and the frost covered vehicles and the ground all around Central Minnesota.
Jackets or coats have been added to the hoodies that folks around the area have used to adjust to the cooler temperatures. Hockey and basketball are starting up as well to offer more indoor entertainment, recreation and activity for us as we move closer and closer to the frigid weather that we know is coming.

How to make the adjustment with your family from spending as much time outside as possible to spending as little time outdoors can be a bit challenging. If you have young kids or grandkids in your life, the Minnesota Department of Education has a good idea, read to or with your kids.
The goal in the state is to have all the kids reading at grade level or above each year and accomplishing that feat really gets a good start at home. To help parents with not only doing this with their kids, but helping them grow in reading, the state has created the Literacy Toolkit for Families.
This program helps parents understand how to build a good foundation with their children when it comes to reading and then have the knowledge and tools to help them when they hit spots along the way where they will struggle.
Learning can be frustrating for parents and kids alike, but the Literacy Toolkit gives parents reinforcement to their part of the process and hopefully helps build confidence and a passion for reading for kids.
The winter months are a good time to take advantage of helping your kids be better prepared for the future will bring their way.
