This is gross.  Summer is the time when you want to utilize the states numerous bodies of water as much as possible.  Especially when it's been as hot as it has been this Summer; actually Spring into Summer, as we technically just entered that season.

But when a sewer backs up and causes 3 beaches to close, that is just gross.  And quite honestly, I'm not sure I'd ever want to  be hanging out at or swimming in water that had been a subject of a sewer backup.  I can't really think of anything that would be worse.

The three beaches in question are all around Cedar Lake.  Cedar Lake East Beach, Cedar Lake Point Beach, and Cedar Lake South Beach.  This is after the closing of Bde Maka Ska Thomas Beach and Lake Hiawatha Beach from e-coli levels last week.  The bacteria is supposedly from the rain on Sunday before that brought in storm drain water.  Yuck.  There are signs that have been placed at these beaches so there is no question if this was one of the beaches that was contaminated or not.

When this weather continues (which it's supposed to) and you just want to find a beach with some cool water, this is a bummer.  And like I mentioned before, I'm thinking I might not be ok floating, swimming or doing anything around those lakes again.  And before, I thought the worst thing in a lake that could infect you was "lake itch".  That's bad enough, but how exactly do you get rid of sewer "stuff"?  I know that things like that are probably always in public bodies of water to some degree, but it's the "knowing" that's worse.

Happy Summer!
