Supermoon to Light Up The Sky Tonight, As Skies Clear Over MN
No, this story has nothing to do with Kim Kardashian. Tonight, the skies are expected to clear and we should have a good view of the Supermoon. Evidently, this is one of our first signs of Spring.
According to NASA, The Supermoon will appear full until early Wednesday, however, the true full moon will be tonight (Monday). Supermoons happen when the moon is in it's closest approach to Earth in orbit. This will make tonight's moon look bigger and bright, barring cloud cover. I checked the forecast and it looks like the skies over us will start to clear around dark tonight.
The Supermoon also has some other names. Crow Moon, Crust Moon, Sap Moon, Lenton Moon and Sugar Moon, mostly to herald the arrival of Spring. The Lenton Moon signals the arrival of Lent for Catholics.
!2 full moons a year is the norm, with one each month. This year October will sport 2 full moons, the 1st and the 31st of October. 2 full moons in a single month is known as a Blue Moon. This year the Blue Moon falls on Halloween. How appropriate.
2020 will have up to 4 Supermoons total, with the next one April 7th. I hope we get a good view tonight.
