We Minnesotans are known for our ability to consume an astronomical amount of alcohol (it must be our Irish roots.) It’s kind of ingrained into our culture. Take it from someone who isn’t native to the state.

I’m from Kentucky, where half the populations regards alcoholic consumption as blasphemy. When I moved here I was thrilled when I realized that you’re basically considered a square if you don’t at least drink socially.

I’m proud to call Minnesota home now. It should come as no surprise that the land of 10,000 lakes is home to some of the best craft beer in the country. Today we’re going to take a look at the top 10 best beers made right here in Minnesota (in no particular order.)

  • Surly - Darkness
  • Surly- Damien
  • Fair State - Mirror Universe
  • Modest Brewing – Bye Bye
  • Summit Brewing – Skip Rock
  • Summit Brewing – Golden Fruited Ale
  • Bauhaus Brewing – Short Pants
  • Surly – Todd The Axe Man
  • Blacklist Artisan Ales – Makrut Lime Wit Belgian
  • Surly – Heatslayer

Personally, if I had to pick just one of these guys that I would rank above the rest, it would have to the Surly Darkness. It is perhaps my favorite beer of all time (I might even like it more than Guinness Draught, which is saying something.)

If you're a fan of darker, more rich beverages I would definitely recommend it to you. I actually have a huge bottle of it sitting at my house that I have been saving for a special occasion. Maybe I'll bust it out for Labor Day weekend.
